Strange New Spectacle: A Vulcan Wedding, Zombies, and 60's Camp at Warp 10

Strange New Spectacle: A Vulcan Wedding, Zombies, and 60's Camp at Warp 10

You know how they say “expect the unexpected” at San Diego Comic-Con?

This year, Strange New Worlds said, “Hold my poisoned martini glass.”

Welcome to Strange New Spectacle, a fully live, fully bonkers, totally fabulous immersive Trek experience that crashed into SDCC like a malfunctioning shuttlecraft and stole our hearts (and possibly our katras).

Performed both in the bright, baking daylight of the PETCO Park Activation Zone and again on the streets of San Diego's famous Gaslamp District, this wasn’t just a celebration of Trek, it was a warp-core-powered musical fever dream.

And yes, we were there. Twice (the blisters from my SNW are still thanking me for that). And we have the wedding photos to prove it.

A Vulcan Wedding, But Make It a Musical

The spectacle featured three original mini-musicals cooked up by the brilliantly chaotic minds at JFI Productions, each one lovingly Trek-flavored and absolutely off the rails:

  • “Wedding Bell Blues”: Spock’s getting married, the guests are emotional wrecks, and somehow it turns into a full-on musical. Highlight? Girafe (not beating the allegations, Girafe), got plucked from the crowd, donned a beautiful flower crown and bouquet, and married Spock. We are still emotionally recovering.

  • “Shuttle to Kenfori”: A zombie-horror pastiche with musical numbers. Yes, really. Pike and M'Benga spooked, infected Klingons, and redshirts who finally get their solos before, well… you can guess. The choreography was peak Trek meets Rocky Horror.
  • “A Space Adventure Hour”: Picture a 1960s Trek variety show broadcast straight into the void. Silver lamé, go-go boots, and genre-throwback absurdity as far as the eye could see. It was high camp with a Starfleet insignia, and we were living for it.

From Daylight Mayhem to Nighttime Glam

Both activations featured the same rotating performance schedule, but the vibes shifted dramatically between venues. At PETCO Park, the sun was blazing, the zombies were sweating, and every musical number had an extra layer of heatstroke delirium from the San Diego sun. It was glorious.

Then came the move to San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter and The Lodge. And just when we thought it couldn’t get better? The cast and producers of Strange New Worlds showed up to dance with the performers. Yes, that actually happened. We watched a real-life Starfleet boogie down with Klingons and zombie crewmates. Even Girafe's new husband danced with his real life counter park Ethan Peck. Total chaos. Total joy. Total Trek.

A Trek Experience Like No Other

Strange New Spectacle wasn’t just a pop-up. It was a full-throttle, no-notes love letter to the sheer range Star Trek is capable of. Comedy, horror, romance, musical mayhem, it was all there, lovingly dialed up to 11 and served with a wink and a flourish.

It captured what makes Strange New Worlds (and modern Trek as a whole) so exciting right now. its willingness to play, to surprise, and to get very weird while still honoring the soul of the franchise. It was honestly unforgettable.
