If Mariner were here, we think she would say something like, "I have no idea what the hell is going on, but I'm just gonna go with it."
And that's what we're doing this week! This Thursday marks the penultimate episode of Lower Decks season four, and this time around, Mike McMahan and co. are keeping all the details close to the vest...close to the hull...close to the nacelle? Sure. But that's right; We have no episode title and no synopsis for episode 409. It's like it's Tuesday in Spacedock or something.
But Mike McMahan told us at New York Comic Con that the final two episodes of the season are special and that he didn't want any details leaked out, hence the press not getting their hands on screeners for this episode or the finale. But during our roundtable discussion, he did drop a few hints, specifically that these last two episodes are Mariner-focused.
"We haven't released the last two episodes of the season, but they are, I can say, pretty Mariner-focused. And we've been kind of leading up to them across the season and across the series. It's two really, really, plot driven episodes."
Going off the little we have from the images; there is one big hint in the promos: Captain Freeman walking towards an establishment called "Mudd's." Mariner also seems to be in some kind of wildlife refuge that is definitely giving off some Jurassic Park vibes.
We could speculate forever, though it's easy to assume that the plot surrounding the mystery ship that's been making vessels throughout the quadrant disappear will come to a head.
