Voyager Flies Again! Trekkies Treated to a First Look at 'Star Trek Prodigy' Season Two

There's Classrooms on that starship! Just don't let Rutherford near them.

Trekkies gathered in Las Vegas this weekend for Creation Entertainment's annual convention were treated to something special this afternoon: a four-minute first look at Star Trek Prodigy season two!

Prodigy, which was canceled and removed on Paramount+ back in June, is still searching for a new home as work continues finishing production on its second season. There have been bits of good news since then, including the release of episodes 11-20 from season one on Blu-ray and DVD, and the entire first season available digitally.

Fans of the first animated Trek series aimed at a younger audience have also made it known how badly they want the show back with their wallets, buying up a large portion of DVDs of the first half of season one, action figures, and more.

And at Star Trek Las Vegas, showrunners Dan & Kevin Hageman, Executive Producer Aaron Waltke, Composer Nami Melumad, and the voice of the Protostar herself, Bonnie Gordon, took the main stage to give some more good news. Active talks are happening with studios, and the team is 99% confident there will be a new home for Star Trek Prodigy.

The Prodigy team on the stage also made it a point to mention how much the outpouring of love from Trekkies has touched them and that part of the reason they're able to be on the stage talking about the show today is because the fans have been vocal with #SaveStarTrekProdigy.

Fans in the main hall asked what else they could look forward to in season two, and one major talking point was that Prodigy will start to show how the series is connected to the larger Star Trek universe. This means we'll be seeing more familiar faces and legacy characters that will make not only fans of Voyager happy but of TNG as well.

Robert Picard as The Doctor in  Star Trek Prodigy season two

In fact, in the four-minute preview shown during the panel, we're reintroduced to everyone's favorite Emergency Medical Hologram, The Doctor. Not only is Robert Picardo back to reprise his role as the beloved EMH, but he will also be the new hologram that guides the Prodigy crew in season two! But they need a starship, don't they?

The deflector has never looked so good! The  U.S.S. Voyager-A in  Star Trek Prodigy season two

And as Dal asks in the preview if it's a Protostar-class, The Doctor tells him to think bigger as fans in the hall are introduced to the brand new Lamar-class, U.S.S. Voyager-A! As our co-host tweeted live from the convention, what a treat for fans. Also, humble brag, I called this during our season one finale review; just saying.

As for all the Janeway/Chakotay shippers out there? Nami Melumad made it a point to say that she was beyond satisfied with what happens with that relationship in season two.

When asked about the music, Nami went on to say that the music and the themes are beautiful-that it's an honor to keep Janeway's legacy going, and that she feels the same way for getting to do so now with The Doctor.

Finally, fans wanted to know what they could do to help secure Prodigy a home. The team said that fans are making a difference by purchasing DVDs, cosplaying, writing, and recording reviews, that it's all moving the needle, and to "keep at it!"

As for us here at Strange New PodWe're beyond honored to call a lot of the crew who work on this show our friends, and you can bet we will continue to talk about and cover Star Trek Prodigy. So keep your sense-OARS locked on SNP for news and updates as Prodigy continues its search for a home.

A BIG thank you to Girafe for covering this panel and making sure I had a bunch of details to write about!
